April 14th, 2007I’M INITIATIVE on MSN Messenger by Microsoft
I was looking at my MSN Messenger contact list when i noticed a strange IM sign in front of a friend’s name. He had a message saying “To help UNICEF, put *unicef in your MSN name”. My curiosity brought me to http://im.live.com . So apparently Microsoft decided to help various organizations dedicated to social causes. Great initiative! For sure this will bring even more notoriety to Microsoft and MSN Messenger but since it’s done the “right” way, it’s ok with me!
i’m is a new initiative from Windows Live Messenger. Every time you start a conversation using i’m, Microsoft shares a portion of the program’s advertising revenue with some of the world’s most effective organizations dedicated to social causes. We’ve set no cap on the amount we’ll donate to each organization. The sky’s the limit.
So any time you have an i’m conversation using Windows Live Messenger, you help address the issues you feel most passionate about, including poverty, child protection, disease, and environmental degradation. It’s simple. All you have to do is join and start an instant messaging conversation. We’ll handle the donation.
There’s no charge, so join now and put our money where your mouth is.
The i’m™ initiative is only supported by Windows Live™ Messenger 8.1.
It’s simple to join the i’m initiative if you already have version 8.1 of Windows Live Messenger.

There you go! By doing this, Microsoft is giving money (don’t know how much) to this charitable organization! I suppose if everyone does this, we could actually make a difference. I do believe that! And even if you are helping just one kid somewhere, isn’t it worth it? So what are you waiting for ?
